An Invitation to Futures Fair 2009

Postsecondary institutions that fit the Futures Fair mission are invited to attend the 21st Annual Futures Fair on Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

Futures Fair is open to approximately 10,000 high school students, their parents/guardians and high school counselors from Sedgwick County. Last year, over 3,000 high school juniors and seniors from Sedgwick County visited with representatives from over 100 postsecondary institutions. Many students from neighboring counties also attended Futures Fair. The Futures Fair committee reserves the right to limit participation.

Location
Futures Fair 2009 is held in downtown Wichita at Century II Convention Center, Exposition Hall, 225 W. Douglas, Wichita, Kansas 67202.

Registration and Payment
To be guaranteed participation in Futures Fair 2009, registration and payment must be received by Friday, October 2, 2009.
Booth cost is $150 per booth — late registration and additional booths cannot be guaranteed.
Online Registration: Click here for online registration.
Mail-In Registration: Click here to complete registration form, print it and mail to address on form with payment.
A confirmation letter and additional information will be sent to those who register by the deadline. If there are questions, please contact Jim Flax, 316.973.4419.

Booth Set-Up

Century II Exposition Hall doors open at 8 a.m. for exhibitors to set up their booths. All booths should be prepared to open at 9 a.m. The session is 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. This session is highly attended by high school students, counselors, teachers and nontraditional adults seeking higher education opportunities. Many schools provide busing to Futures Fair for their students. Parents/guardians and adult students are also welcome. We encourage institutional participants to stay until the fair closes. There will be NO evening session for Futures Fair.

A draped booth, six-foot table, two chairs and a sign with the name of the institution are provided. Exhibitors who need electricity must make arrangements directly with Century II. Contact Lori Owens for a Century II Utilities form.

Hospitality and Lunch
A hospitality room is open during the event, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch buffet and beverages.

Parking
Representatives are encouraged to drive up to the east doors of Exposition Hall to unload before proceeding to the parking area. Student volunteers will be available to help unload. Bring quarters for the parking meters. See Century II’s Web site.

Alumni Representatives
While we strongly encourage the active participation of admission representatives, we realize that this is not always feasible. If you have alumni in the area, you are welcome to send them to represent your institution. You will still need to register, pay and send printed information for distribution to students.

Guidelines
The attending institutional representatives shall observe the following guidelines:
1.Maintain the highest level of personal and professional conduct
2.Make all reservations, confirmations and cancellations as much in advance as possible. Arrive early and stay for the entire program.
3.Accept the booth location as pre-assigned. Locations will be staggered each year. Booths are not limited to table-top displays.
4.Do not bring students, cadets or other non-professionals to Futures Fair.
5.Remain inside assigned booth area. Do not spill over into the aisles or talk with students or bring them to booth area.
6.Confine giveaways to program brochures, catalogs, view books, information request cards and other items containing factual information. Advertising gimmicks such as shopping bags, bumper stickers, buttons, pennants, pens/pencils, posters, flowers, candy and T-shirts, etc. are not allowed.
7.Photographing prospective students as a way of promoting an institution is prohibited.
8.Transactions involving the exchange of money are prohibited, as are contests, drawings or lotteries of any kind.
9.Audiovisual presentations may be operated only if they do not interfere with other exhibitors. This includes, but is not limited to, excessive volume or creating traffic problems. If asked by a conference host to discontinue use of equipment, please do so graciously.
10.Do not use balloons in your display as latex balloons are a health hazard to some people.

Futures Fair is endorsed by the Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO), Sedgwick County school districts including Cheney, Clearwater, Derby, Goddard, Haysville, Maize, Valley Center, Wichita and the Catholic Diocese.
